Most types of Bacteria are microscopic, single-celled living organisms that are enclosed in a protective layer, commonly referred to as a cell wall. This wall protects it from the harsh effects of the environment. Bacteria are able to co-exist with other animals without causing harm to their bodies. They are classified according to shape, mode of feeding and the effects that they have on other living organisms; they could be sphere shaped, rod-shaped, spiral, harmful and helpful bacteria. Over 99% of bacteria that exist are helpful, they live the intestines of animals, where they aid in food digestion.

Non-commercial yogurt, one that is made with less sugar helps reduce the amount of hydrogen sulfide, plaque and bad odor in the mouth. Apart from these foods that reduce the amount of bacteria in the mouth, one can use antibiotics to kill the bad bacteria. Washing your hands before and after meals, avoiding unhygienic public places and maintaining general cleanliness helps to clear up bad bacteria. It calls for a parent to teach the children the importance of maintaining good hygiene and constant oral care habits in school and at home.
